COURSE OVERVIEW
In order to overcome the increasing demand for drinking water and because of the limitation and rarity of fresh water natural sources, scientists have developed many techniques for purifying and desalinating salt water . One of the widely used technique is the reverse osmosis process . RO process has many advantages comparing with the conventional thermal desalination system . These advantages include faster installation , easy maintenance , relatively low costs and zero direct carbon emission . Moreover , RO systems require less electrical power which may support green hydrogen industry and renewable energy . The focus of this course is to provide an introduction to basic RO principles . It will cover what reverse osmosis is , what RO membranes made of , how they work and the principles of operation and maintenance of RO system . In addition , drinking water international standards will be discussed and you will learn how these standards can be achieved by using RO technology .
