Course Overview:

The Hydraulic Design course using WATER GEMS offers participants the opportunity to learn how to efficiently and economically design and analyze water distribution networks using modern technology available in WATER GEMS.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Properly plan a water network.
  • Calculate the required water quantity based on user consumption and estimate the amount of water needed for firefighting.
  • Effectively use the WATER GEMS software to design integrated water networks.
  • Verify the accuracy of program outputs, including velocity limits and energy losses within the network.
  • Professionally output the designed water network, including the correct placement of air valves, washout valves, and fire hydrants.

Course Content:

  1. General introduction to infrastructure networks and their design principles.
  2. Data collection for the area intended for network design.
  3. Calculation of required water quantity based on user consumption.
  4. Estimation of water quantity required for firefighting.
  5. Preparation of calculation notes and hydraulic calculations for the network.
  6. Drawing a diagram of the network illustrating its components such as pipes, junction points, pump locations, and tank sites.
  7. Inputting the layout into WATER GEMS software, reviewing, and analyzing the network layout.
  8. Entering ground levels, user consumption, firefighting requirements, and pump consumption into the program.
  9. Learning how to conduct hydraulic analysis for a water network in scenarios of constant water consumption throughout the day.
  10. Learning how to conduct hydraulic analysis for a water network in scenarios of variable water consumption throughout the day.
  11. Learning how to conduct hydraulic analysis for a water network in firefighting scenarios.
  12. Verifying the accuracy of program outputs post-hydraulic analysis, including reviewing water paths, velocity limits, and energy losses within the network.
  13. Drawing network profiles within the program to identify locations for air valves and washouts.
  14. Exporting the water network from WATER GEMS to AutoCAD, displaying the required data, and correctly placing air valves, washout valves, and fire hydrants.

Target Audience:

  • Civil engineering students (specializing in infrastructure and facilities).
  • Graduates and professionals working in hydraulic network design.
